Lake Wolfgang and its hiking routes

Hikes around the Lake Wolfgang

Over hill and over dale - always towards the summit. There are countless ways to hike the mountain landscape around Lake Wolfgang. However, they all have one thing in common: the picturesque scenery, no matter from which sea level. The most brilliant view, however, is from the top of the Schafberg, from which you can count a total of 13 lakes on a clear day. If you're not so sure-footed or quickly lose stamina, you can bypass the climb, which takes at least three hours, by taking the Schafberg cable car. Now you're probably thinking, "Schafberg, everybody knows it!" Sure, after all, the striking mountain ridge is one of the best known in the region. But have you been to the top? If not, you should definitely put this summit climb on your climbing to-do list. You won't regret it! What else should be on this list?

We have put together a few hiking highlights for you, starting from your hotel Zimmerbräu.

Ascent with the Schafbergbahn
St. Gilgen and the Zwölferhorn

Pilgrimage trail over the Falkenstein

The scenic, varied, 2-hour hike leads from the hotel Zimmerbräu to the Hupfmühle, the Riedersteig up to the Falkenstein to St. Gilgen and then by boat back to the starting point. The historic pilgrims' path is mostly pleasant to walk on - apart from a relatively steep section up to the Falkenstein (approx. 200 meters in altitude) - and is therefore also suitable for children from approx. 6 years of age. On the way you can refresh yourself at the Leopoldhof, Gasthof Fürberg or at the Dornerbauer.

Hike to the Schwarzensee

From Hotel Zimmerbräu you first go to Ahornplatz, from there you will reach the fairytale-like Schwarzensee via the saddle. The trail is not particularly demanding and therefore suitable for all generations. Via the Wirersteig you then return to the starting point. In total, the walk takes about 3.5 hours, excluding a stop at "Zur Lore" in the Almstadl or in the Moosalm.

BĂĽrglstein lap

BĂĽrglstein lap

This leisurely 2.5-hour walk takes you along the pedestrian and bicycle path towards Strobl. At the height of the soccer field you have to turn right. The idyllic, flat riverside walk is possible with any weather and absolutely suitable for families, even with strollers. Refreshment stops: Kirchenwirt, the inn (Strobl), Pizzeria Hias, BĂĽrglstein (St. Wolfgang).

The Vormauerstein:
the little brother of the Schafberg

Compared to the Schafberg still rather an insider tip, the 330 meters lower Vormauerstein is inferior to its big brother by almost nothing. First you have to cross the Ahornplatz in the direction of Holzerbauer (possible refreshment stop), turn right at the parking lot there and then along the edge of the forest to the so-called "Zwergerlweg". The ascent takes about 4.5 hours and is steep and rocky. But at the top you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of Lake Wolfgang, Lake Attersee and the full glory of the Schafberg flank. At the end of the alpine pasture a private gravel road is located - the descent. Do not forget your snacks!

Perfectly equipped for the hiking vacation

Isn't it great to have everything in front of your door; not to have to get into the car for every activity, every excursion? During your stay at the hotel Zimmerbräu in St. Wolfgang, your car is also on vacation, and if you like to, it can stay in the garage during your whole holiday. If you don't have hiking poles or a hiking backpack, you don't need to buy them separately. You get all of this with us, together with your trail map. So you save money and nerves when packing. If you return happy but sweaty from a glorious summit victory, throw your clothes straight into the self-service washing machine and dryer - yourself under the shower - and hang your mountain boots on the hook, or rather on the boot dryer. So you are well equipped for the next hiking trip!
