The romantic advent

The Wolfgangsee Advent has become one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Austria and the entire Alpine region. The pre-Christmas season is celebrated according to the old custom. The floating peace lantern, visible from afar, is already considered a true symbol of the Wolfgangsee Advent.

The Advent Market in St. Wolfgang is open from Friday, November 22nd to Sunday, December 22nd, 2024

Wednesday to Friday from 1.00 to 7.30 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays from 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.

Schafbergbahn in St. Wolfgang at Lake Wolfgang

The entire, lovingly designed christmas scenery can also be viewed wonderfully from afar: enjoy a ride on the Schafbergbahn advent train, which makes its way through the snow-covered mountain forest to the Schafbergalm at 1,364 meters above sea level. In the main season - from May to October - Austria's steepest rack-and-pinion railroad climbs 5.83 km and 1,190 meters in altitude to reach the Schafberg (1,783 m).

The Lake Wolfgang boat trip also glides over the gentle waves of Lake Wolfgang in winter. During advent, the well decorated towns of Strobl, St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen are navigated across the crystal-clear water, along with many other beautiful corners. A special attraction at this time of year: the 16 meter high peace light lantern floating in the water off St. Wolfgang. The festive backdrop of the Lake Wolfgang advent, with its 130 advent huts with authentic, regional products, together with the smell of punch and gingerbread and Christmas sounds, really puts everyone in a romantic Christmas mood.
